How to File a DHL Express Money-Back Guarantee Claim

If a DHL Express time-definite shipment arrived after its committed time, the premium you paid for that timing may be refundable. You can file the claim yourself, and you keep the whole amount. Here is how, and where DHL differs from UPS.

Here is what currently carries the DHL guarantee, straight from the table we keep current:

1. Confirm the product is time-definite

The DHL Express Money-Back Guarantee is narrow. It covers only the products that promise a time of day: Express 9:00, 10:30, and 12:00. Express Worldwide and Economy Select promise a day, not a time, so a late one has no guarantee behind it. This is the catch for most factory and cross-border parcels, which usually ship on the day-definite services. Check your product against what DHL actually guarantees before you spend time on a claim that cannot pay.

2. Verify the lane and date were covered

DHL is the segment where coverage moves the most. The guarantee flips on and off by origin, destination, and date, and several lanes carry standing restrictions or remain suspended. Confirm the specific lane was covered on your ship date before you file. Customs delays, weather, peak periods, and declared service disruptions all suspend the guarantee, so rule those out too.

3. Find the committed time, and the actual delivery

Pull the guaranteed commit time (the time DHL promised for that product and lane) and the actual delivery time from tracking. If the actual is later than the commit, and the lane was covered with no exception in force, you have a claim worth filing.

4. File in MyDHL+, within 14 days

Submit the Money-Back Guarantee claim through MyDHL+ or your DHL billing contact, referencing the waybill number. The clock is 14 days from the later of the scheduled, tracking, or proof-of-delivery date. Miss it and the claim is gone, which is exactly why the window is worth watching.

5. Expect the premium back, not the whole label

This is the honest difference from UPS. Where UPS refunds the base transportation charge, DHL Express refunds the premium paid for the timed service, the extra you paid to get it by a set hour. The credit posts back to the payer of record. You stay the account holder the entire time. Nobody takes over your account, and nobody takes a cut.

Once you have caught an eligible miss inside the window, the filing itself is a short, do-it-yourself act. Catching it is the hard part, and it is what we watch for: we flag the late, covered DHL shipments while the window is open and hand you the claim ready to file. Not sure a parcel qualifies in the first place? Run the four-step eligibility check.
